Antique Road Show Hunts for American Treasures
Who would have ever believed an antique road show would sweep
the nation in a flurry with such a warm welcome from connoisseurs of
all things old? The PBS Antiques Roadshow has done just that and its
success is of historic proportions.
Each year the Antiques Roadshow visits several locations throughout the
nation, inviting people of all walks of life to check their closets and
attics for hidden treasures of some worth. The Antiques Roadshow
appraisers are ever on hand to define that worth – for better or for
worse!
If you find the Antiques Roadshow is on its way to your town, prepare
to secure a ticket (fast). Check the Antiques Roadshow website for
details on dates and locations. You can apply for tickets online, by
sending a postcard or by making a telephone call to the Roadshow
Hotline. Entry deadlines and dates are available from the Antiques
Roadshow website. Tickets are free. There is a two-ticket limit for
each household. Tickets are not available at any of the Antiques
Roadshow sites so plan ahead.
Antique collectors – beginning and experienced – delight in the
Antiques Roadshow because it gives them an opportunity to get a verbal
appraisal on their collectibles for free. Each person who is admitted
into an event is allowed to bring up to two items for appraisal.
Between 70 and 80 appraisers specializing in 20 different categories
are on hand at each show location. Unfortunately, vehicles, coins and
stamps are not appraised at Antiques Roadshow appraisal events.
If you attend an Antiques Roadshow event, take along your antiques, but
leave your cameras and recording devices at home. Don’t plan to sell
your antique item at the show because show rules prohibit buying and
selling on the premises.
Get ready to roll with this or any antique road show that helps to
bring sleeper collectibles out of the country’s dark closets and into
the light!
